Since March 2020 we are living a different reality due to the pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2, a new virus for Mankind. This has caused changes in society as well as economic instability at all levels. Today we are invaded by endless emotions and uncertainty and we anxiously wait for normality to return.

However, it is a fact that this pandemic happens due to the alteration of ecosystems, the destruction and exploitation of biodiversity and finally global connections. All this leads to the appearance and spread of new emerging and re-emerging diseases. Efforts should be directed towards the study of these pathogens, disease treatment, prophylaxis, but also towards environmental factors and the impact they represent for our society. These objectives were underlined by this discussion, where experts from different areas participated, exposing topics focused on the genetic diversity and evolution of SARS-CoV-2, reservoirs, immunology, molecular diagnosis, sequelae, environmental aspects and municipal management for the containment of the COVID -19.
