In the Western world, genetic diseases have been the main cause of diseases and casualties in the second half of the 20th Century.

Indeed, genetic diseases are the new barrier that medicine and society must face.

Human genetics constitutes a key component for many scientific fields. It is an area that is in continuous progress and the applications are limitless. An increasing number of people are dedicated to this branch. However, one of the greatest weaknesses of this discipline in Bolivia is the lack of communication between scientists, doctors and health personnel working in the area of genetics.

Thus, under the name of the Bolivian Society of Genetics (Sociedad Boliviana de Genética; SOBOGEN), the society was founded on May 25, 2012, in the city of La Paz – Bolivia, being designed as a non-profit institution, whose fundamental pillar is the development of Research in the area of genetics, with its own statutes and regulations.

Within the framework of Article n° 21 of the Political Constitution of the State and Title II of the Civil Code (OF COLLECTIVE PEOPLE), SOBOGEN is governed by its own regulations.
