Dr Michel Tibayrenc, of French nationality, is a doctor of medicine specialized in dermatology and tropical medicine and a doctor of science with a specialty in parasitology.
He was the founder of the CEPM research unit at the IRD in France, and has since been at the forefront of evolutionary genetics and molecular epidemiology of infectious diseases.
He has published just under 200 scientific research articles, 20 book chapters, is the editor of a dozen books, is the initiator and editor of the journal Infection, Genetics and Evolution, is the creator of a European network for the typification and molecular taxonomy of microorganisms, with more than 70 laboratories in different countries and has directed the work of just under 100 students between doctoral theses, specialized degrees and master’s thesis, among others.
His experience abroad is also quite extensive, he has worked in several countries in Europe, the United States, North Africa, Asia and Latin America, including Bolivia.
Dr Tibayrenc spent a first period of 5 years and a second period of 2 years in Bolivia and in this last period he was initiator and later, in collaboration with the genetic institute UMSA, founding member of our SoBoGen. Since and always he has supported and helped in the realization of the activities of the Society and for this, today we want to thank and recognize him by appointing him «honorary member» of the Bolivian Genetics Society.
